DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE TO PARENTS

The Distance Learning Centre has wound down the Pre-Degree Programme for the current session(2008/2009).  In spite of the ongoing strike action, we have been able to meet most of our objectives.  There were some unfortunate developments arising from the fact that many parents and candidates failed to read our advertised objectives of the Pre-Degree Programme.  We stated clearly that our programme is not a short cut to admission. 

In spite of this, we recognize the anxiety of parents and candidates and I indicated that we shall ensure that candidates who perform creditably are given the benefit of their excellent performance by the University.  The ongoing strike has slowed down the admissions process.  The Distance Learning Centre works within the framework of the University process and we cannot on our own admit candidates or make any claims to that effect.

We are forwarding to you the result of your wards.  After due approval, you shall be receiving notification following which certificates will be issued duly signed by competent officers.  The Director of Distance Learning Centre does not sign certificates issued by the University of Ibadan.I have asked our portal services providers to forward our advertised objectives to you again.  As a result of the persistent insistence by some that the term “Pre-Degree” is a promise or commitment to admit, we have changed the nomenclature of the programme to “Bridge-Link”.  This way, we can focus on candidates and parents who truly believe in our objectives, not those who seek a short cut to a Nigerian University.

For candidates in the current session, we shall be in touch once the University is reopened.  We remain committed to providing whatever leverage we can to ensure that those who have performed satisfactorily are admitted into the University within reasonable limits, in accordance with the law, guided by the University’s admissions process.
